Empowering Women’s Health: Transforming Lives, One Woman at a Time
Together with our esteemed guests from the U.K., we continued with community impact activities as we addressed the pressing healthcare challenges faced by women in Lwengo, Uganda. Through a free medical camp focused on Women’s Health Conditions, our dedicated team of gynaecologists, doctors, medical staff, and guests provided essential services to over 250 women, touching lives and ensuring their well-being.
The maternal mortality rate in Uganda remains a cause for concern, with Lwengo District facing its unique challenges. Factors like limited access to quality healthcare, poverty, infectious diseases, and other direct and indirect causes have contributed to high maternal mortality rates in this region. The maternal mortality rate for Uganda as a whole is around 336 per 100,000 live births, compared to less than 12 per 100,000 in the U.K. Lwengo District has an even higher rate of around 500 per 100,000 live births.
Our Commitment to Gender Equality and Community Well-Being
Our joint commitment to gender equality and community well-being led us to take action. We firmly believe that women are the backbone of communities, and their health and well-being are paramount. We must ensure that women have access to the healthcare, education, and economic opportunities they need to lead healthier lives and make informed choices about their well-being.
Over two days, our medical camp focused on Women’s Health Conditions, particularly maternal and reproductive health. Services provided included antenatal care, scanning, Endometriosis evaluation, cervical cancer screening, blood tests, urinalysis, blood sugar checks, blood pressure checks, physiotherapy, and more.
Our journey would not have been complete without the invaluable participation of our U.K. guests. They not only contributed their support and expertise but also their dedication and compassion, making a profound impact on the lives of the women we served. Their presence and involvement were a continuation of a testament to the power of global collaboration in addressing critical healthcare challenges.
The Launch of the Women’s Health Project
This medical camp was another foundation for addressing women’s health challenges, hence the launch of our Women’s Health project. This project aims to empower women by addressing their pressing challenges in accessing healthcare, education, economic opportunities, and advocacy. It is a multifaceted approach that encompasses:
- Enhancing Access to Quality Healthcare: Our commitment to maternal and reproductive health remains unwavering. We will continue to provide access to essential high quality and effective healthcare services for women in need.
- Raising Awareness and Advocacy: We believe in advocating for policy changes that benefit women’s health and raising awareness about critical health issues that affect them.
- Promoting Education and Economic Independence: We recognise that education and economic empowerment are key to improving women’s lives. We will support women’s education and skill development, fostering economic independence.
- Community Engagement: We collaborate closely with local communities, leaders, and organisations to ensure a culturally sensitive and community-driven approach to women’s health.
