Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is an international day of donating, volunteering and other forms of giving. It follows two shopping days, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and is a chance to give back to causes that are close to our hearts.

In 2020, over £20.2 million was donated to good causes in the UK – that’s almost £14,000 every minute.

Why support Joy For Humanity?

Joy For Humanity provides education and empowers Ugandan families to break the cycle of generational poverty to live healthy and dignified lives.

Donating to Joy For Humanity, this Giving Tuesday will help complete Phase One of the Health Centre that will bring effective healthcare to 270,000 people of Lwengo District in Uganda.

Why is the Health Centre urgently needed?

At the moment, one in eight children in Lwengo District will not celebrate their fifth birthday. Imagine if that was the case in the UK – three children out of every nursery class wouldn’t reach reception.

The maternal mortality rate for Uganda as a whole is around 336/100,000, (UK 7/100,000), and Lwengo District has a rate of around 500/100,000.

The Plastic Bottle Hospital.

In March 2021, we started constructing a large Health Centre in the community of Kyazanga.  This is completing one of our dreams and complements the Education work we have been doing for 20 years and the Economic Growth projects over the last five years.

It is amazing that over the last year a small group of Joy For Humanity friends and supporters have raised funds towards the building & equipping of phase 1 of the Health Centre (outpatients, dentist suite, maternity suite, laboratory, pharmacy, 2 wards) in Kyazanga, Lwengo, Uganda. However, we urgently need to raise a further £40,000 to complete Phase one.

An Environmentally Friendly Health Centre

As well as being solar-powered, much of the furniture and the road/car park/pavements will be made from hundreds of thousands of recycled waste plastic bottles.  The local community are being paid to provide these bottles.  Their payments go towards their health care.   We are planning a similar scheme for food and animal waste.  The centre will be accessible to all via these creative schemes.

Please consider Donating to Joy For Humanity this Giving Tuesday.
